Trump Visit

Trump's visit a perfect illustration of his flawed plan

Donald Trump's flying visit to Lewis and Aberdeenshire this week must be seen as the superficial publicity stunt that it is, Greens today argued. Not only is he leading the people of Lewis on with vague suggestions of future money for castle restoration (1), his proposals for Aberdeenshire remain unsuitable for the area's long-term economic and environmental priorities.   Patrick Harvie MSP said:

"Donald Trump's approach to this inquiry fits exactly with his proposals. He flies in, sees next to nothing of Scotland, and understands even less. His idea that Aberdeenshire should rely on American tourists arriving by Learjet and spending their time and money in a gated community is both fundamentally flawed and literally unsustainable.

"Scottish tourism will only have a future if it continues to appeal to visitors from the UK and neighbouring countries, and that means rejecting this development in its present form. Even if it had been a good proposal, his efforts to bully councillors, planners, and Parliament should be enough to see it rejected in the name of due process."
