Stewart says Greens the only genuine, fresh alternative

As polling day approaches in the Cathcart by-election Green candidate Chloe Stewart has made a final appeal to the voters. After the often personal and abusive campaign fought by some parties over the last weeks in the Cathcart by-election, Chloe hopes that the electorate of Cathcart will use their vote to call for a genuine, fresh alternative and not plump for the politics of despair and old discredited ideas.

Chloe Stewart said: "A Green vote is a vote for our children's health and opportunities, for green spaces and clean air, for safe food and an education which promotes imagination and tolerance.  A Green vote is for a Citizen's Income which will lift all our people, including our elderly, out of poverty, it is a vote to abolish the unfair Council Tax.   A Green vote is for safe, welcoming communities, not ID cards and a feared knock on the door."

The Greens are hopeful of taking votes from across the political spectrum, and point out that in contrast to the Westminster election a vote for the Libdems is a vote for more of the same from the Scottish Executive. The Greens hope to project a more serious and constructive approach than the SSP, and will also target disillusioned Labour and SNP voters.

Chloe added: "Many people in Glasgow voted Libdem this year as a protest against New Labour's record in government. In this election however they know that a Libdem MSP will play follow-the-leader inside the coalition, and be no different to a Labour MSP."

Chloe is a leading JAM74 activist and is a co-sponsor of the legal action being taken against the Scottish Executive over the M74 controversy. The Labour candidate Charles Gordon is well-known as a prominent supporter of the motorway scheme.
