About the Software
The content-management system behind this website was developed in-house by the Scottish Green Party, using free/open-source tools. The principal authors are Billy Allan and Ian Ruffell.
We use the PHP scripting language, PEAR library and smarty templating system. The internal (party-only) parts of the system include an adaptation of the popular phpBB bulletin-board software. Some of the icons are re-used from the Gnome Project.
The system is currently running off a MySQL database, although we intend the system to become fully database-neutral in subsequent releases. The party uses the other leading open-source database, PostgreSQL in other party IT projects.
Other software that have been integral to its development has been:
- Subversion version control
- Debian GNU/Linux
- Vim text editor
- Kate text editor
We would like to thank the efforts of all these open-source communities.
